In this book the author tells us how a mountainous wasteland in himalayas which was once viewed as just a blank place on map became a field of combat between India and China in 1962. This book has a dark corner of India - China relationship in it's foundation period which is relevant today and also gives the answer of the question why two Asian giants both emerging from the shadow of imperial control are unable to solve their border dispute.
She also explains that the initial relation between the communist China and democratic India was friendly.
She shows the triangular play between India, China and Tibet which effects their politics and people. It has full insights between Nehru, Sardar Patel, Mao Zadong and Zhu Enlani how these people deals about Dalai Lama and his events through which fights for Tibet from Lhasa.
She also tells how Mao combined anti-imperilism with nationalism while Nehru truned his anti-imperilism into anti-war which eventually failed and leads to war between India and China in 1962.
This book is a must read for anyone who are interested in India's foreign and defence policies.
